Sunshine Chinchillas

Please Note:

• Chinchilllas ARE NOT cuddly, please consider this prior to adopting.

• Adopting a kit (baby) DOES NOT guarantee they will "bond" with you. 

• Some chinchillas are more friendly than others, but there is no guarantee they will bond with their owners. 

• Please remember, even if chinchillas seem to be cuddly/playful on social media accounts, this is the exception NOT the norm for these animals. 

• These are prey animals with instincts to run away, bite, or spray urine if they feel threatened, they are not like cats/dogs/ferrets.

• Kits (babies) need MORE care than adopting an adult. They cannot have large cages, treats, playtime, or excessive handling (no exceptions). 

• Chinchillas under 6 months are still babies, they must be treated with great care. They are not easier to care for than an adult chinchilla.

• Chinchilla kits do not leave our care until at least 10-12 weeks of age, no exceptions. We want to ensure they are living well on their own after being weaned from their mom; if we do not feel they are ready to leave our care, we will postpone any adoption appointments until we feel it is safe for them to go to their new homes. 

• After bringing home a kit, please give them up to a few months to adjust to their new surroundings. These are living creatures with fluctuating moods and needs, please allow them time to adjust. 

• We DO NOT accept advanced deposits for animals that are not born yet or are not over six weeks of age. Kits are only listed as available and ready for deposits once they are close to weaning age. We do not add photos of young kits to our website or list them available right after birth. Our top priority is their health and growth, not making a high dollar amount or over-producing.

• We do not have a waitlist or offer this, all animals are available on a first-come, first-served basis. 

• We CANNOT predict when kits will be born, or what color/gender they will be. Chinchillas breed on their own time and pace, this can be a very slow process.

• Chinchillas sold on this page are pedigreed. Pedigrees available upon request. These animals are not to be bred without prior consult with a reputable breeder, attending shows, allowing the kit to be at least one year of age, and finding a suitable show quality mate. 

• Under no circumstances does Sunshine Chinchillas ever condone backyard breeding or selling ill/injured animals.

• To place an animal on hold, a non-refundable deposit of $50 is required per chinchilla. Please refer to our Sales Policy for more information about deposits.

Available cage setups are typically a mixture of used and new supplies and will have a used cage included, we do not have cages for sale very often.
